Next Generation Environmental Simulator

The first of its kind—the 4,000sf construction of an environmental simulator flume tank and system was the product of the Prime Ministers environmental initiative to prevent ocean spills and to better mitigate them when they occur. The system is designed to simulate oil spills in the mid-Atlantic Ocean (wind, salt, water, various petroleum-based liquids and cold). The project also included the construction of a 1,000sf sister standalone building outside c/w with its own insulated wall panels, roof, slab design to hold 2 clean water and recovery water tanks. The Simulator room itself consisted of 6” composite metal panels wrapped in marine grade stainless steel. All ducts, fittings, piping, valves were in stainless steel to handle the conditions within the cold room. Other features consisted of the installation of structural steel support, catwalk and mezzanine construction, 2 rooftop chillers/condensers, electronic and digital controls for the fully automated flume tank.
